About
Doctor Jeremy Sager
Dr. Jeremy Sager is deeply committed to improving education for scholars in underserved communities. As a first-generation college graduate from a blended family, Dr. Sager understands the transformative power of education and the challenges faced by young Black boys in particular. His personal experiences and professional journey have shaped his dedication to making a difference for all scholars, especially those who are often overlooked.
Dr. Sager is proposing to open Novus SMART Academy (K-8) in Rutherford County, Tennessee, with the goal of creating a school that truly meets the needs of families in underserved communities. This initiative, part of his work as a BES Fellow, aims to provide a supportive and innovative learning environment that will help scholars excel and prepare for their chosen college and career paths.
Dr. Sager believes that creating diverse and inclusive school communities starts with leaders who understand and address the unique needs of all learners. His mission emphasizes maintaining high standards and high-quality academic instruction, believing that every scholar can reach their full potential with the right supports in place. His vision for Novus SMART Academy (K-8) is to offer an extraordinary learning experience, integrating subjects like Science, Math, Arts/Electives, Research, and Technology with College and Career Exploration, Character Education, and Structured English Immersion (SEI) for English learners. Scholars will also engage in community service and real-world projects, fostering strong connections with their community.

Currently serves as an Elementary Virtual School Principal at Volunteer State Virtual Academy.

Served as the Lead Secondary Literacy Specialist for the Schools of Innovation at Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Served as a middle school principal in Nashville and achieved TVAAS Level 5 Reward School Status during the 2021-22 school year.

Named a 2022 Public Charter School Changemaker by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.

Prior to this, spent over 15 years in education as a college admissions executive assistant, student finance coordinator, classroom teacher, adjunct professor, instructional coach, curriculum specialist, academy dean, dean of instruction, assistant principal, and ninth grade academy principal.
